• Advantages
• Very easy to set up and use
• High-quality video (up to 4K@30FPS)

• Large ƒ/1.8 aperture + wide-angle lens create a very professional looks video without the need of huge DSLR
• Raw format of the footages from iPhone are .mov and the codec H.264 which are optimised for the use with Final Cut Pro X and Motion
• I use MacBook Pro and iPhone therefore, Apple eco-system makes transferring footages very convenient and intuitive.

• Battery ran out very quick (about 2 hours)
• AutoFocus on an iPhone is too responsive to light and shadows

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

Challenging Convections

My film opening challenges conventions of a crime thriller, we decided not to include any dialogue since it will create complication to the audience.  We started off the film opening with a car approaches the seller.

We made the trading scene looks normal no obstacle so, it will make the audience think ahead and question what would happen next.

The way that the buyer stand and move show that he is very confident and powerful. Also, we decided not to show what is inside the luggage because it will create make the audience curious what is in the luggage.

A trunk shot in Reservoir Dogs

A trunk shot that we decided not to include.

At first, we decided to include famous trunk shot from the film Reservoir Dogs into our film opening but when we put all of the raw footages in order including a truck shot then we realised that trunk shot was not a good fit in our film opening.

Social Group and Issues

Fonts

We decided to use Roboto fonts in out film opening because of it's simplicity and modern design. Which matches our theme since the film is set in the modern world.

Editing Process

Editing Software ? 

I have decided to use Final Cut Pro as my main editing software and Motion to create 2D and 3D cinematic titles, transition and introductions.

Final Cut Pro

 The screenshot below shows the project timeline where I put a text overlay at the beginning of the  opening.

Also, in the screenshot below shows color grading of the footage so that the opening looks a bit darker which matches the main theme "Thriller".

Motion

The screenshot below shows multiple layers of 2D moving element held together to create a 2D motion transition effect for the introduction of "Linear Production"

Location

Why ?

I have scout the location near my house. The location we have chosen is my clubhouse which is very quiet and looks like a suburban road. This fits our scene very well since we are trading illegal.

Also, there is gardener car parked there which we can use in the film. There is also a digger which we can also use to make it feel more suburban or on a construction site.
